ESTHERS International (formerly ESTHERS Children) was founded in December 2006 with a vision to work with young girls living in extreme at-risk conditions to fight against child prostitution and the sexual exploitation of these young victims. In 2007 we opened a restoration home that housed 18 girls throughout the following 3 years. In 2010, in response to new Brazilian laws prohibiting children from being in a residential program for more than 6 months, we began a reintegration process to transition these girls back home with their families with the vision to continue working with them through our new focus – a day program where we could educate young girls academically, spiritually and in the arts, educate them on the risks they run of falling victim to sexual exploitation and human trafficking, meet their basic health and hygiene needs, and provide much needed counseling and pastoral care for them and their families in a place where they could learn how it felt to truly love and be loved.
In 2011 we officially opened the Quiet Strength Community Center in Recife, Brazil where we are currently working with 50 girls between the ages of 4 and 14 and their families each day as well as 20 girls at an after-school enrichment program in the local public school where we are educating these young girls and raising awareness for them on the risk they run of being a victim to this injustice right outside the doors to their school, and one girl who moved on to our graduate program in 2012 where we are able to invest in their education through technical courses in an effort to prepare them for entrance into college and/or with job skills to acquire a job upon graduating from high school.
Our vision at ESTHERS International is on prevention of child prostitution and sexual exploitation of young girls between the ages of 4 and 18 and aftercare for its innocent victims that are desperately looking for a way out.
