ESTHERS Children was founded in May of 2006 by Emily and Jennifer Sutherland. We focus on doing prevention work with children living in at-risk situations globally that have little hope for a promising future. We use a 6-step program to see children restored physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and intellectually through community outreach, family intervention and substitute family homes. In March of 2007 we opened our first substitute family home, Esther's House, in Recife, Brazil. It is currently home to nine girls. In October of 2007, we began working in a local community with Project Potyra, in Cha de Cruz, serving more than 600 children and their families. ESTHERS Children is currently in the initial planning stage of launching our second international project in Lima, Peru, in partnership with an already established local NGO. Our goal is to open this project in January of 2010. We are a Christian organization working in partnership with a local Brazilian NGO and Congregational Church in Recife, along with other churches, volunteer groups and individuals in the United States. Through these partnerships we strive to transform communities, families and children.
